VMware vSAN

VMware vSAN is an object-based storage solution that is tightly integrated with VMware vSphere. Virtual machines are comprised of objects and components distributed across multiple drives and hosts in a vSphere cluster. Availability levels and capacity consumption are assigned on a per-VM and per-object basis through the use of storage policies.

Failures to tolerate

Failures to tolerate specifies how many drive or host failures an object can tolerate before becoming inaccessible.

No Data Redundancy

1 failure - RAID-1 (Mirroring)

1 failure - RAID-5 (Erasure Coding)

2 failures - RAID-1 (Mirroring)

2 failures - RAID-6 (Erasure Coding)

3 failures - RAID-1 (Mirroring)
