The transition this month of Windows Server 2016 from "mainstream" to "extended" support made me curious about traditional software licensing and how it differs from the software-as-a-service business model. Over the years, companies like Microsoft, Google, Salesforce, and even Amazon have implemented successful SaaS offerings. VMware CEO Raghu Raghuram emphasized the same priority to become the multi-cloud platform provider of choice by accelerating the transformation to a subscription and SaaS business model.
